Dear All,
Diamond Light Sourcehttps://www.diamond.ac.uk/, one of the world’s leading scientific research establishments, is offering paid summer placements for undergraduate students in STEM and related subjects. Please forward this information to anyone who you think may be interested.
Diamond is looking for exceptionally able and enthusiastic undergraduate students to join us for 12 weeks next summer starting in late June.
There are 15 projects to choose from and this is an opportunity to link your studies to direct work experience whilst making an impact for an international science facility. As well as direct training for the project Diamond offers training and support in the following:
* Presentation training * Scientific Poster design * Python programming * Public engagement (and opportunities to get involved in events) * An internal programme of seminars and talks from leading scientists * Invitations to tours and talks of other science facilities across the Harwell Campus, such as ISIS and the Central Laser facility
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron facility, by using light 10 billion times brighter than the sun we are able to study samples at the atomic level, looking at research areas across all disciplines. We investigate anything from protein structure and nano-materials to jet engines and planetary atmospheres.
We are looking for undergraduate students studying Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Software & Computing, Mathematics or a related subject to apply for the 2019 programme. The 12 week placements typically start on the 24th June. Students will be paid £15,749 pro rata and must already have the right to work in the UK.
The deadline for applications is midnight on Tuesday 15th January 2019. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a student recruitment day on Wednesday 6th February or Friday 8th February 2019.
You can read about the programme, and each of the available projects on this webpagehttps://www.diamond.ac.uk/Careers/Students/Summer-Placement.html.
