Dear all,
The Finnish Mathematical Society will award
* the Ernst Lindelöf prize to the best mathematics Master’s/Diploma thesis completed in 2025, and * the FMS thesis prize to the best mathematics PhD thesis completed in 2025.
If you would like to nominate a thesis completed in 2025 for either prize, we kindly ask you to send your nomination to both the secretary (smy-sihteeri@helsinki.fimailto:smy-sihteeri@helsinki.fi) and the chair of FMS (pekka.pankka@helsinki.fimailto:pekka.pankka@helsinki.fi) by Monday, February 9th 2025.
The nomination must include
* the grade of the thesis, * a short justification for the prize (in either PDF or plain text format), and * the thesis and its abstract in PDF format. * For the PhD thesis prize, we also require the statements of the pre-examiners and opponent.
The board of the FMS will decide the winners. The winners will be announced at the FMS annual meeting, to be held in March-April (date to be fixed later). You can find previous winners at https://matemaattinenyhdistys.fi/toiminta/palkinnot.
Please do not hesitate to nominate an excellent work – we would be pleased to see many candidates from all fields of mathematics! You can also contact me for further information.

Suomen matemaattinen yhdistys palkitsee
* parhaan vuoden 2025 aikana valmistuneen matematiikan maisterin- tai diplomityön Ernst Lindelöf -palkinnolla, sekä * parhaan vuoden 2025 aikana valmistuneen matematiikan väitöskirjan SMY:n väitöskirjapalkinnolla.
Jos haluaisitte ehdottaa vuoden 2025 aikana valmistunutta työtä jommankumman palkinnon saajaksi, pyydämme lähettämään ehdotuksenne sekä SMY:n sihteerille (smy-sihteeri@helsinki.fimailto:smy-sihteeri@helsinki.fi) että puheenjohtajalle (pekka.pankka@helsinki.fimailto:pekka.pankka@helsinki.fi) maanantaihin 9.2.2026 mennessä.
Ehdotuksen tulee sisältää:
* työn arvosana, * lyhyt perustelu palkinnon myöntämiselle (PDF- tai plain text -muodossa), sekä * työ tiivistelmineen PDF-tiedostona. * Väitöskirjapalkintoa varten tarvitaan myös esitarkastajien ja vastaväittäjän lausunnot.
