Dear all,
next week, the Perception Engineering group in CAC is hosting the visit of Professor Jeroen S.W. Lamb from Imperial College London.
Prof. Lamb will give a talk on Friday 20.2. at 14:00-15:00 in TS128 with the title "Modelling with uncertainty: a random dynamical systems approach". Please see the talk abstract below.
All are welcome to attend!
Best regards, Kalle Timperi (Perception Engineering group)

Title: Modelling with uncertainty: a random dynamical systems approach.
Abstract: Models lie at the foundation of our understanding of reality. In the field of dynamical systems, which model systems that move in time, ordinary and partial differential equations have been very successful, historically. However, in recent years, in view of the increasing availability of observational data and fast computers with large memory, the ambition has dramatically increased to understand “complex” systems, which are hard to understand using traditional models. In this talk I will advocate the use of random dynamical systems in this setting. These incorporate explicitly uncertainty and are able to capture essential features of complex systems while maintaining mathematical tractabillity. Despite their obvious relevance, random dynamical systems remain relatively poorly studied theoretically and explored in applications. In this talk I will present many challenges and a few results highlighting opportunities in this field, and potential topical applications.
