Time-resolved STED nanoscopy in life sciences
13 – 18 July 2026, EMBL Heidelberg
Hello Seppo,

If you are an early-stage researcher in the life sciences and have an immediate need to apply STED microscopy skills to your biologica questions – then you should apply for #EMBLSuperResolution now.

The six-day advanced microscopy course combines lectures, tutorials, and hands-on workshops to provide in-depth training in STED Nanoscopy, covering fundamental principles, technical implementations, and practical imaging strategies.

A strong focus is placed on sample preparation, including fluorophore choice, refractive index matching, and optimised image acquisition for fixed samples and living cells.

The application deadline is 6 April 2026

Modules

  • Sample preparation for STED microscopy, including choice of fluorophores and refractive index matching
  • Technical implementations – pulsed-STED, gated-STED and time-resolved STED (tauSTED)
  • Multi-colour 2D and 3D STED microscopy
  • Image acquisition strategies for live-cell STED
  • STED multiplexing via lifetime-based fluorophore separation
  • Clearing for large volume STED imaging
  • Expansion-microscopy STED
  • Deconvolution of time-resolved STED data
  • Image analysis

What past participants say:

“Very well organized and conceived course. Everything is covered here including the fundamentals, the practical sessions, creative application, innovative development of STED technology. If you are interested in the nanoscopy, I would recommend you to participate in this course.”
