Hello every Teekkari and Teekkari freshman!
In 2026, as Oulu celebrates its year as the European Capital of Culture, it’s also a perfect moment to reflect on what Teekkari culture is all about and what it brings to life in Oulu. Teekkari culture consists, for example, jäynä, tempaus, and the rich singing culture of Teekkaris. Now it’s time to put to the test what kinds of Teekkari cultural deeds you, Teekkaris and Teekkari freshmen in Oulu, can come up with during the year!
For the very first time ever, OTY is organizing the Teekkari Cultural Deed of the Year competition. Anyone can take part: any Teekkari or Teekkari freshman from Oulu, a pair made up of them, a group, or even an entire guild! The aim of the competition is to enliven Teekkari culture in Oulu and to bring jäynä, tempaus, and singing culture, for example, back into an active part of Teekkari life.
You can participate by organizing any kind of Teekkari cultural deeds and reporting them to OTY’s Culture Swine by email in any format you like throughout the year. The report can be a photo compilation, a video, a short written description of the deed, or even a song about it, the choice is yours!
The competition is open throughout the year until late autumn/winter. A more precise participation deadline will be announced in the autumn. You may enter the competition with as many Teekkari cultural deeds as you wish, but not with a deed that is already being entered into another competition organized by OTY, such as Jäynäkilpailu or Sanoituskilpailu. The deed must be completely new. Entries cannot be made retroactively with Teekkari cultural deeds carried out in previous years.
And what would a competition be without proper prizes? The prizes for the Teekkari Cultural Deed of the Year competition in 2026 are as follows:
1st place: a 150 € gift card to Alppila Bowling (sponsored by Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK 🔥), the competition’s traveling trophy, and the honor of being its very first winner
2nd place: a 100 € gift card to Finnkino
3rd place: a 50 € gift card to Nallisport
OTY reserves the right to change the prize or its destination if, for reasons beyond OTY’s control, the prize cannot be awarded as announced.
So start planning jäynä's, tempus, writing lyrics, singing or whatever else you can come up with!
Looking forward to your Teekkari cultural deeds,
Saana "himputti" Jurvelin
