The plates are not moving on the sample tray area, since the transfer table is full of salt. The machine will be cleaned on Monday and hopefully it will work after that. PLEASE be careful when using the Victor machine. This is second time within four months that we have to open the whole apparatus because of salt in the machine. Most importantly, do not shake plates in the machine! Before using the machine check that your plates are dry outside. If you find out that your test plate is wet after measurement, some spillover of liquids might be in the apparatus, do not disappear back to your lab just like nothing has happened. In case, please come to tell me or Sirpa Rannikko or Outi Kummu (at Microbiology ) that there might be liquid in the machine. We will call the tech persons at the faculty to open the machine and carry on the cleaning. The machine can be out of use for several days! F-Secure home users, important update released

Hi all, If you are still using the F-Secure Client Security program at home (provided earlier by the University) then a update fix is recommended. The consumer versions of F-Secure should be updated automatically. The list of affected products can be found from the link below. You can check your F-Secure version by clicking the right mouse button over the F-Secure icon in the taskbar and selecting 'About'. Hei kaikki Pienenä muistutuksenA kaikille, että tiskiin menevien astioiden huuhtelu on tärkeää!!! pulloista kun ei välttämättä näy päällepäin mitä myrkkyjä tai vaikeasti puhdistettavaa niissä on ollut. Eilen Kiepin välinehuollossa pestiin täysikoneellinen tiskiä. Pesun jälkeen kaikissa pulloissa ja purnukoissa oli pieniä hippusia. Astiat pestiin uudelleen kolme kertaa ja hippuset vain pysyivät niissä kiinni. Näinpä koko koneellinen astioita meni roskiin. Syylliseksi osoittautui yksi 100 ml sinikorkkinen pullo, joka ei koneeseen laitettaessa ollut näyttänyt mitenkään poikkeavalta. Pullo laitettiin tiskikoneeseen muiden tiskien joukkoon. Surullisen ensimmäisen tiskauksen jälkeen pullossa oli selvästi jotain Sepharoseeen tai Sephadexiin viittaavaa. Mitä tästä opimme? Joskus on halvempaa pistää sotkuinen epämääräinen pullo itse roskiin ennen kuin se sotkee paljon muita laboratoriovälineitä. terveisin virpi [cid:image003.jpg@01D06700.DA6AD600] Dear All PLEASE REMEMBER TO RINSE THE BOTTLES AND BEAKERS BEFORE YOU PUT THEM IN DISH WASHING BIN!!! IT IS IMPORTANT! It is not so obvious what the bottle has contained, could it be poisonous or almost impossible to clean. Yesterday a machine full of dishes was run in Kieppi DWA facility. After washing all bottles, beakers, measuring cylinders, volumetric flasks etc. were full of small grains. These grains could not be washed away in following three new wash rounds. So all items from that washing machine run were discarded in glass waste. The item in charge of this disastrous washing run was a 100 ml blue-cap bottle. Which did not show any special dirtiness before it was put in the dish washing machine. After washing it was obvious that the bottle contained Sepharose/Sephadex -like material. What did we learn from this? Sometimes it is cheaper to discard one small bottle than make harm for larger amount of lab ware. Best regards virpi

Stratagene qPCR in Kieppi 4th floor

Hi all, The Stratagene qPCR machine in Kieppi 4th floor has been out of use due to pollution of the fluorescence in some of the wells. The machine has now been cleaned and the fluorescence is OK. However, the machine also makes a loud noise and this problem is not yet solved. Maintenance has been ordered, but we do not know the date for this at the moment. The machine can be used (at your own risk). The fluorescence seems to be OK, but we do not know what causes the noise. Best regards, Sini Skarp
