Subject: Suotutkijan paikka auki Sykessä - voitteko välittää verkostoissanne?
Hei kollegat,

Dear colleagues,
don't forget today's Biology Thursday Seminar 2nd Nov, 12:15 on site in room MA335
Dr. Thomas Lilley, LUOMUS (Finnish Museum of Natural History) on "Boreal bats in a crossfire of climate change and green energy production"
The ecology and diversity of bats in the boreal zone has been little studied, particularly in the Palearctic. Until recently, this has been partially due to the lack of methodology and technical advances facilitating the collection of high quality, quantitative data from these cryptic, nocturnal animals. As we begin to uncover fascinating details about their lives on a knife-edge at northerly latitudes, it is becoming increasingly evident that the delicate balance their survival depends on is becoming under increasing risk from green energy production and climate change. The presentation summarises the most recent advances in the field of bat research in Finland and puts these findings in perspective considering the increasing anthropogenic pressure populations face from various directions.
