Although the programme is not yet fully finalised, the current plan is as follows: Friday, January 30: 9:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00 Saturday, January 31: 10:00–16:00 Each day will begin with presentations and workshops, followed by hands-on practical identification work in iNaturalist. Share Your Biology Career Journey – Inspire Upper Secondary Students on Feb 26!

A panellist from the field of biology is needed! Especially postgraduate students! Welcome to share your career as a biologist with Norssi upper secondary school students on 26/02/2026! The Faculty of Science and Norssi are organizing an event where students will have the opportunity to explore various fields within the natural sciences. This event will take place in the morning from 8:00 to 11:00, with the panel discussion scheduled from approximately 8:30 to 9:30. A participant from the field of biology is needed for the panel discussion. The panel will follow the "The Song of My Life" concept: each panellist will choose a song in advance that describes their life, for example from the perspective of a research career, and the audience will try to guess whose song it is. During the discussion, the panellists will share experiences from their own careers, including highlights and key insights. Feel free to share your story in either English or Finnish. Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder 2026 info perjantaina 16.1.2026 10.00 - 11.30! Tervetuloa EIC Pathfinder -infotilaisuuteen. EIC Pathfinder on Euroopan innovaationeuvoston (EIC) rahoitusohjelma, joka on osa Horizon Europe -puiteohjelmaa. Sen tavoitteena on tukea uraauurtavia tutkimus- ja kehityshankkeita, jotka synnyttävät läpimurtoteknologioita ja uusia innovaatioita. ERC Trainings and Events in Spring 2026 https://patio.oulu.fi/en/news/erc-trainings-and-events-spring-2026 Research Support Services will organise several training sessions and events in the spring to support researchers who are applying for the European Research Council (ERC) grants. As ERC application templates have changed starting from the ERC Work Programme 2026, we recommend that researchers planning ERC applications - especially first-time applicants - participate in these events. ERC Accelerator Programme 2026 (register<https://link.webropol.com/s/ercaccelerator>) The purpose of the Accelerator is to inspire and support early-career researchers and those applying to ERC for the first time in developing ambitious research concepts with scientific impact suitable for ERC funding calls. In 2026, the ERC Accelerator sessions will be held on Teams according to the following schedule: 24 February 2026, 13:00-16:00 - Let's Get Started 10 March 2026, 13:00-16:00 - What Are ERC-Level Ideas? 24 March 2026, 13:00-16:00 - Working on Your Idea/Concept ERC Online Training (register<https://link.webropol.com/s/erctraining2026>) The ERC consultancy company Yellow Research will provide a two-part online training for the University of Oulu on 13-14 April 2026 (9:30-12:00), covering how to create a strong ERC grant application. A recording of the sessions will also be available afterwards, but during the training participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. Successful ERC Applications Reading Day (registration opens later) The University of Oulu, in collaboration with the Research Council of Finland, will again organise a successful ERC applications reading day on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The event offers an opportunity to read previously funded ERC Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced Grant applications. The reading day is held on the Linnanmaa campus.
