The text should be both in English and in Finnish - if you have no Finnish speakers in your group I can help with translations. - If you have nice photos of your group in action, please include one as well - list of PhD students and post docs and other staff to be included in the list of personnel - please send your material with the e-mail subject "Unit website" so I can keep track of them more easily - if in doubt whether your group should have its own entry with you as the PI or whether you should be under some larger group of people, I don't think there are any hard rules, let me know if you're uncertain. Any other thoughts on what should be included in the unit website are also valuable, but note that we are tied to the format provided by the University so there are some constraints. Dear colleagues, don't forget today's Biology Thursday seminar, on site in room MA335, 23th May, 12:15 with Dr. Tuomo Mantere, University of Oulu, Research Unit of Translational Medicine, on "Next generation cytogenetics with optical genome mapping" Optical genome mapping (OGM) is a novel genomic technology used to generate high-resolution maps of the genome. It offers a unique capability to detect structural variations (SVs) and other genomic alterations that may be challenging to detect through current short-read sequencing and traditional low-resolution cytogenetic methods. This presentation covers the principles of OGM technology and presents proof-of-concept studies utilizing this technology for the detection of constitutional chromosomal aberrations underlying rare diseases, as well as acquired chromosomal aberrations in leukemia. Master's thesis reviewers

Hei, In the last meeting of the Biology Degree Programme Committee we decided that from now on the supervisor of the thesis will be one of the reviewers and they will invite another reviewer in Laturi (see instructions here: https://libguides.oulu.fi/laturiguide/reviewer). At least one of the reviewers should be a teaching staff of our Unit, i.e. in a case when a PhD student, a postdoc or somebody outside the Unit has been the supervisor. The reason behind this decision is that we have been more and more often short on reviewers. This practice is already in use in many other degree programmes at our university. Hei, tiedoksi kutsu kaikille opetusta antaneille ja opinnäytetöitä ohjanneille / FYI invitation for teachers and BSc and MSc thesis supervisors. WBW Minna Luonnontieteellisen tiedekunnan kevään 2024 valmistujaisjuhlaa Publiikkia vietetään torstaina 13.06.2024 klo 14.15 Linnanmaalla salissa L2. Ohjelmassa on koulutusdekaanin avauspuhe, kahden valmistujan puheet sekä todistusten jako. Tarjolla myös kakkukahvit. Pukukoodi valmistuville ja heidän kutsumille vierailleen on ns. tumma puku. Opetushenkilökunta on tervetullut juhlaan. Ilmoittaudu 4.6.2024 mennessä osoitteeseen study.science(a)oulu.fi. Ilmoita samalla mahdolliset erityisruokavaliot. ___ ___ ___ Faculty of Science will hold Publiikki (Diploma Conferment Ceremony) on Thursday 13.06.2024 at 14.15 lecture hall L2. Programme includes educational dean’s speech, graduation speeches and awarding diplomas. Coffee and cake will be served as well. Dressing code dark suit for graduates and their guests. Teaching staff is welcome to the ceremony. Please enroll by 4.6.2024 to study.science(a)oulu.fi. Inform your possible dietary restrictions.
