There is an open position for a postdoctoral scientist in the research project of associate professor Reetta Hinttala (http://www.oulu.fi/university/researcher/reetta-hinttala).
Description of the position
You will be responsible for generation and analysis of new mouse models for severe neurological multiorgan syndromes of childhood. Our earlier discovery of a novel severe neurodegenerative disease in childhood with fibrosis, and cerebral angiomatosis (FINCA disease) has highlighted the importance of a new disease causing gene, NHLRC2, in the tissue homeostasis of multiple organs. In this project, the physiological role of NHLRC2 is characterized in our recently created FINCA knock-in mouse model. In addition, novel knock-in mouse lines will be created and analysed for syndromes of Finnish Disease Heritage.
Required qualifications and assessment
We expect you to have a PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, animal science, developmental biology, immunology or a related field. Previous experience with CRISPR-Cas9 editing, disease modelling including phenotyping of mouse models, organ and tissue pathology or other supporting techniques will be considered as assets. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist who has good communication, collaboration and teamwork skills. Fluency in both written and spoken English are required. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific publications, and in acquiring supplementary funding will be taken as merits.
Salary
The salary will be based on level 5 of the demand level chart for university-level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The duration of the position is two years. The starting date is the 1st of May, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of a two-year contract.
Application
The application must contain the following documents:
1) Motivation letter outlining your research interests, scientific writing skills and relevant work experience
2) Curriculum vitae
3) Bibliography
4) Contact information for 2-3 references
Applications, together with all relevant attachments, must be submitted using the electronic application form in Saima by Monday, March 9, 2020. Applications sent by email will not be considered.
