We warmly welcome everyone whose work is related to experimental animals to participate in the first Finnish culture of care Symposium "High standards, Humane Science", organized by TOKES and Fin3R (programme attached). The symposium will be held at the Meilahti campus of the University of Helsinki, Biomedicum lecture hall 2, on 09 April from 10 AM to 3 PM.
The culture of care in laboratory animal work means a strong commitment to improving animal welfare and experimental quality by promoting communication between stakeholders. Culture of care challenges and improves existing practices to promote animal welfare and scientific standards.
The symposium offers international examples of culture of care activities and examines the current situation in Finland with the aim of promoting national activities and drawing up a road map for the future.
The symposium will be complemented by a separate interactive "Care-full stories" workshop on Thursday 10 April, which is a follow-up to Jordi Tremoleda's presentation. The workshop provides an opportunity to experience how the Care-full storieshttps://www.geog.ox.ac.uk/research/technological-life/projects/care-full-stories/index.html approach works when training stakeholders of experimental animal work in the culture of care, and to exchange ideas and experiences.
The workshop welcomes all colleagues working in the experimental animal community, including researchers at all levels of expertise, veterinarians, animal caretakers and technicians, policymakers and welfare professionals. The number of participants in the workshop is limited to 30. The symposium and workshop will be held in English.

The Symposium is accompanied by a separate interactive “Care-full stories” workshop, an extension to Jordi Tremoleda’s talk, on Thursday April 10th, 9-12h at Helsinki University Viikki, Infokeskus Sali K1088 (Viikinkaari 11, Helsinki).

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
Culture of Care in experimental animal work refers to a stern commitment to improve animal welfare and experimental quality through transparent communication between stakeholders. Culture of Care improves practices and challenges the status quo to achieve the highest animal welfare and science standards.
The Symposium provides international examples of Culture of Care activities and reviews the current status in Finland, aiming to stimulate national activities and compile a roadmap for the future. Symposium talks are live-streamed but panel discussion is only on-site.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The workshop is an opportunity to experience how Care-full stories approach works in training the stakeholders involved in experimental work with animals by exchange of ideas and experiences. For workshop, all colleagues working in laboratory animal community, including researchers across all levels of expertise, veterinarians, animal technicians, policy makers, and welfare professionals are welcome to apply.
Workshop: Interactive session to experience innovative approaches to support emotional openness and caring perspectives in our work with laboratory animals
Description: This session follows up on Jordi Tremoleda’s presentation and is an opportunity to experience the Care-full-storieshttps://fin3r.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7dd252fccfd51cce4e3470c04&id=3559e7b01e&e=17f4c6669c work, through a dynamic, participative and engaging group session. This will be a fun and creative opportunity to experience such activity to get familiar with the training materials, which consists of a selection of scripted scenarios- and how the group activity is structured. This group exercise will serve to help attendees to experience this training tool and reflect on how this can be planned and suited to your institution’s needs. And importantly, it will be an opportunity to collectively exchange ideas and experiences, to build up professional and emotional connections to empower the great value of our caring duties to the animals and our colleagues at work.
For this session we welcome all the colleagues working in our lab animal community, including researchers, across all levels of expertise and seniority, veterinarians, animal technicians, policy makers, AWB members and animal welfare/ ethics professionals.
