Hi,
Our PCR machine (used by all groups at the genetics and by some groups
from the zoology & botany, as well as during the courses) is getting old
and there's a need for a new machine in the near future (provided that
there will be funding available). If you have special requirements or want
to have an influence on what kind of a machine would be useful for your
purposes, let me know (preferably during this week) or join us in the
genetics coffee room (3rd floor) at 13 today. Please, forward the message
if you know others who may be interested.
Here's some wishes that have been discussed so far:
-two blocks (two users)
-gradient PCR (possibility to use different temperatures for different
tubes during the same run: good e.g. for optimisation)
-possibility to use either plates or tubes
Presently block B of the PTC is out of order, but will be fixed later this
week (requires a component which costs 4000 EUR!), block A should be OK.
Matti suggested that in the future we should preferentially take the PCR
reactions away from the machine when the programme is finished, keeping
the machine on e.g. overnight is an additional strain for the machine.
However, this means that there will be less potential users/day.
Cheers, Minna
