Two of these positions are allocated to HBS-DP. HBS-DP funds doctoral research in the following doctoral degree programmes: medicine, biochemistry and molecular medicine, dentistry and health sciences. The doctoral researcher positions are primarily intended for dissertation research for researchers who do not yet have doctoral study rights or are in the early stages of their dissertation work. The positions are full-time and fixed-term for a maximum of three years, starting at the earliest on 1.1.2025 and at the latest on 1.4.2025. The positions are fully funded for three years by the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) and by the research units. Those of you who are already utilizing FinnGen in your work may have received information regarding this update, but we are sharing it more widely as these datasets offer valuable insights and research opportunities also for those not currently using FinnGen. The FinnGen research project has expanded its research data with laboratory results from the Kanta register. The added data include all basic laboratory tests used in medical care as well as a number of less common laboratory results. Laboratory data are available for more than 400 000 FinnGen participants. The first Kanta laboratory results are from 2014, with comprehensive results available from 2018 onwards. FinnGen's experts carried out extensive quality control of the laboratory values before introducing the new data into FinnGen. In addition, the data have been harmonised and adapted to international standards to facilitate the straightforward use of the data in research. Combining the Kanta data with the existing genetic and health data will open up new opportunities for studying disease progression, which is one of the main research objectives of FinnGen. Researchers can access the number of laboratory measurements and the average laboratory results per disease using Risteys. The Risteys website is a comprehensive and open application hosted by FinnGen that allows you to view non-individual-level summary results for health variables in the FinnGen data. For example, it provides information on the prevalence of different diseases in Finland by age group and the different medicines used to treat the diseases, according to the level of use. Now Risteys also provides case-by-case laboratory measurements for different diseases, which can be classified by prevalence, incidence or outcome: https://risteys.finregistry.fi FinnGen's pseudonymised individual-level genotype, health and laboratory data can be used by researchers working for the organisations participating in the FinnGen study for the purposes of the FinnGen study. Participant organisations include University of Oulu, Oulu University Hospital and large number of others. The data can only be processed in FinnGen's audited and approved secure research environment, the Sandbox. FinnGen is a public-private partnership involving Finnish universities, hospital districts, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Blood Service, biobanks, FINBB and several international pharmaceutical companies. FinnGen is a biobank research project that aims to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of many diseases by combining data from biobank samples and health registers. Dear all, FYI: I will take the Piko thermal cycler PCR-machine as well as Biorad electrophoresis system model 192 (the large one) with me to Tampere University. They have been funded by our group.
