IMPORTANT: Research security self-assessment in the RCF winter call 2026

Dear RCF Winter Call applicant, those applying for Academy Research Fellowship or Academy Project Funding in the Research Council of Finland winter call closing 12 November 2025 must include as an appendix a self-assessment of research security issues and, if necessary, a more detailed description of the risks and a risk management plan. The assessment must be prepared using the template<https://www.aka.fi/en/research-funding/apply-for-funding/how-to-apply-for-f…> provided by the funder. The commitment issued by the site of research to the application means that the university accepts the application and confirms that security risks and their management have been adequately addressed in the application. The internal process at the University of Oulu All applicants need clearance from the person who gives commitment by site or research, prior to submission of their application. For this purpose, we are collecting the research security information from you in Webropol and forward it to the relevant commitment giver. We also ask you to give a short summary (or draft abstract) of your research to help evaluate the research security issues which may arise. Submit your answers on two Webropol forms by 31 October: 1. Self-assessment form: https://link.webropol.com/s/security-self-assessment-for-winter-call-applic… Have a look at the forms as soon as possible and contact me if you have any questions. This way there is enough time to resolve any possible issues. Please note that this process is compulsory for permission to apply. You will be informed that the risk assessment has been accepted as soon as possible. Meanwhile, you should continue working on your application. Instructions for completing the self-assessment rorm * Carefully read all the instructions and documents linked to the self-assessment form before completing it. * You may submit the appendix in English, Finnish or Swedish, regardless of the language of your application. The appendix will not be peer-reviewed, but as part of the application it will be available to the reviewers. * The appendix concerns research security. Other project-related risks are described as part of the research plan. * You can not include any type of collaboration with organisations in Russia or Belarus, or with any organization/ person named on the EU sanctions list (this applies also to individuals and researchers, who represent or act on behalf of an organization on the sanctions list). Hello, Please find below the information on a super interesting, interdisciplinary talk that is supported through our SAFIRE programme: Dear all, We are very excited to invite you to the keynote speech by MV Eitzel on community-based modelling for socio-environmental sustainability. This talk will kick off a three-day workshop, titled From Model to Method: Reflexive and Inclusive Environmental Modelling in Peatland and Water Managment, funded by Eudaimonia, and will be open to all. When and where: Tuesday, 9 December, 9:00 - 10:15, Stage, Tellus. Short description of the talk: How can models and data science serve community needs and the larger public good? Often this requires training and experience outside typical science curricula and research team norms. In my keynote, I will share some of the insights I've gleaned from working on interdisciplinary teams of biophysical and social science researchers, and how these skills relate to being able to work with communities so that models bring benefit rather than harm. Through interdisciplinary synthesis and discussion, thoughtful self-evaluation, and group intention-setting and implementation of best practices, we can move our projects towards doing the work in the world that we intend it to do. Speaker bio: MV Eitzel is a community-based modeler working at the University of California, Berkeley and University of California, Davis. MV's research sits at the intersection of data science, Science and Technology Studies, and community-based participatory work -- focusing on finding the right technologies for community questions and understanding how we can do work that supports the long-term flourishing of people and their environments. Hi all, as discussed in unit meetings, we are close to saturation point with office spaces, and some reorganization might be called for. But first we need to have an accurate picture of the situation - so as the first step I ask that all PIs would check by the end of next week (26th Oct) that the group members currently working (or planned to start soon) are correctly marked in the board next to the photo gallery in the main corridor. I will then proceed with a questionnaire to people using the large shared offices on how they view the situation.
